Apple is expected on 18 September, the new 3.1 firmware release. This was announced by a developer who discovered that the Current Beta 3 firmware 3.1 on 18 September forfeited. Most of the official versions of 1-3 days before the Beta Relase be published.

After the release of Facebook 3.0, a lot of iPhone/iPod Touch owners have been experiencing a lot of issues such as; birthday age, weird and unusual crashes, and other small privacy update.

This new update, Firmware 3.01, will fix the following:

• Fixed a privacy issue
• Age of contacts in birthdays
• crash problems for the “Friends” section during scrolling up and down the list

Joe Hewitt, the developer of Facebook for iPhone has detailed some of the upcoming features in Facebook 3.1.

ReadWriteWeb had a chance to talk with Hewitt and learn more about the app’s roadmap. In the interview he mentioned three new features…

Contact list synchronization between your Facebook friends list and your phone’s contact list
“It’s a Terms of Service thing more than a technical limitation,”

Push notifications
“I plan to have it in the next major update, the 3.1. It will be the same kind of notifications you get on the website. I probably won’t right off the bat give you chat notifications. If you’ve ever used Facebook’s SMS notifications, you can have pretty granular control and it will be the same level of notification in terms of whose notifications you see and what categories you see.”

Saved, site-wide search
“I hope but I can’t promise to get that into the 3.1 update,” Hewitt said. “We’re still working on getting that into the API. I’m also hoping to let you save a search to your home screen.”

No word yet on the planned release date for Facebook 3.1; however, we will let you know as soon as anymore information is available.

The iPhone could provide a home screen customized to your current location, according to a recent patent filing unearthed by AppleInsider.

Revealed by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office this week, Apple’s filing dated Feb. 21, 2008 for “Transitional Data Sets” describes an invention that would display specific applications automatically populated based on dynamic factors like location.

“The user can create a set of location-aware applications that can be populated by transitional data sets,” the filing reads. “A transitional data set is a data set that can change based on the current location of the mobile device… as determined by a positioning technology (e.g., GPS, cell tower triangulation, Wi-Fi).”

“If the user’s home is in New York, then the user may configure a “weather” widget to display the weather in New York as a default,” the filing reads, “and such default information can be persistent. If the user travels to San Francisco, the user can touch the “Here” button… and the “weather” widget will automatically display the weather for San Francisco… Thus each time the user travels to San Francisco, the location-aware mobile device… can automatically populate the “weather widget with transitional data associated with San Francisco.”
