This tutorial will show you how to upgrade your jailbroken iPhone 3GS from OS 3.0.x to OS 3.1 using PwnageTool for Mac.

If you have a 3.0 iPhone you must jailbreak it using this (Mac, Windows) tutorial before continuing.

Step One
Make a folder called “Pwnage” on the desktop. In it, you will need a couple of things. PwnageTool 3.1.3, found here or here

You will also need the 3.1 iPhone firmware.
3.1.0 (3GS): iPhone2,1_3.1_7C144_Restore.ipsw

When downloading the IPSW file, it is best to download it with Firefox since Safari often auto extracts it!

DETAILS:

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G(S) with ultrasn0w and rely on ultrasn0w to obtain cellular service then you should only update your device with an .ipsw that is made with the new PwnageTool. There are no second chances with this. You need to remember that PwnageTool will provide an upgrade path to newer versions of the iPhone software in the future.
2. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
3. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
4. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the 3.1 capable version of PwnageTool.
5. PwnageTool will work for the iPhone 3GS assuming you have already Pwned it at 3.0 or 3.0.1
6. PwnageTool will work for the iPod touch 2G assuming you have already Pwned it at 3.0 or 3.0.1
7. PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G(S) and the iPod touch (1st Generation and 2nd Generation) but NOT the iPod touch 3rd generation.
8. For 3G and 3G(S) users who are Pwned, PwnageTool is your key to updating in the future, just remember to never install an update directly from Apple, always use an .ipsw that has been created with PwnageTool.
9. There is no Windows version of PwnageTool it is a Mac OS X tool only, we are not developing a Windows version of PwnageTool.

ในที่สุด iPhone 3GS ก็เข้ามาสู่ประเทศไทยโดย TrueMove แล้ว รายละเอียดนั้นสามารถอ่านได้ที่นี่ TrueMove เปิดตัว iPhone 3GS นี่ก็นับเป็นรุ่นที่ 3 สำหรับ iPhone แล้วหลังจากเปิดตัว รุ่นแรกในปี 2007 โดยทาง Apple นั้นได้รับรองว่ารุ่นใหม่นั้นเร็วและทรงพลังกว่า iPhone 3G แน่นอน สิ่งที่เหมือนกันก็มีแค่เพียงรูปลักษณ์ภายนอกที่ไม่ได้เปลี่ยนแปลงไปเลย ดังนั้นเพื่อเป็นการ โหมกระแส iPhone 3GS เรามารู้จักกับ 10 สิ่งสุดยอดที่คุณควรจะรู้เอาไว้ก่อนที่จะตัดสินใจซื้อกัน

1. มันเร็วขึ้น ทาง Apple นั้นได้ออกมาประกาศเอาไว้ว่ามันเร็วกว่า iPhone 3G ถึง หนึ่งเท่าตัวเลยทีเดียว ส่งผลให้การเรียกใช้งานโปรแกรมต่างๆ ตลอดไปจนถึงการปิดโปรแกรม นั้นเป็นไปอย่างรวดเร็วไม่อืดอาด ให้เราต้องหงุดหงิด
2. มีความจุที่เพิ่มขึ้น Apple นั้นจะขาย iPhone 3GS อยู่เพียงสองแบบก็คือแบบ 16GB และ 32GB ซึ่งเป็นการเปลี่ยนแปลงจากที่เคยขายในความจุ 4GB, 8GB และ 16GB เท่านั้น
3. ถ่ายวิดีโอได้ โดย ทั่วไปแล้วการที่เราจะทำการถ่ายวิดีโอนั้น เราจำเป็นที่จะต้องหาโปรแกรมเสริมเข้ามาช่วยเพื่อที่จะให้สามารถถ่ายวิดีโอ ได้ เพราะใน iPhone รุ่นก่อนหน้านี้ ไม่มีลูกเล่นนี้ติดมาให้ด้วย แต่ในรุ่นล่าสุดนี้ มันกลายเป็น ลูกเล่นใหม่ที่ถูกเพิ่มเข้าไป ดังนั้นมันต้องเจ๋งแน่นอน
4. กล้องมีความละเอียดเพิ่มขึ้น ใน รุ่นก่อนหน้านี้กล้องที่ติดมากับ iPhone นั้นจะมีความละเอียอดสุงสุดที่ 2 Mega Pixel เท่านั้น แถมยังไม่มีระบบ Auto Focus อีกต่างหาก แต่ในรุ่น 3GS นี้ กล้องได้ถูกปรับปรุงให้มีความสามารถในการถ่ายภาพได้ถึง 3 Mega Pixel และที่สำคัญก็คือมี “ระบบ Auto Focus” มาให้อีกด้วย
5. ระบบสั่งงานด้วยเสียง (Voice Control) ระบบนี้เป็นสิ่งที่ถูกเพิ่มเข้ามาใหม่ใน iPhone 3GS ลองนึกดูนะครับ มันจะดีแค่ไหนถ้าเราสามารถสั่งให้มัน เล่นเพลงได้ โดยแค่เรา พูดกรอกลงไปกับเครื่อง ไม่ต้องกดปุ่มอะไร แค่พูดว่า “เปิดเพลง” ทำนองเนี้ย แจ่มมั้ยละ หรือจะเป็นการโทรออกโดยใช้เสียง นึกอยากจะโทรหาใครก็ แค่ ยก ขึ้นมาแล้วพูดว่า “น้องแนท” แค่นี้ มันก็จะโทรหาน้องแนทให้ ชีวิตเราง่ายขึ้นอีกตั้งเยอะเลยนะเนี้ย
6. มีเข็มทิศให้ใช้ด้วย นี่ คือระบบเข็มทิศแบบดิจิตอล ซึ่งเป็นลูกเล่นใหม่ที่ถูกเพิ่มเข้ามาในรุ่นนี้ ซึ่งถ้าได้เอามาใช้ร่วมกับ Google Map ละก็มันจะช่วยให้คุณดูแผนที่ได้ง่ายขึ้นมากทีเดียว จะได้ไม่ต้องหลงทิศ อีกต่อไป
7. สามารถแชร์อินเตอร์เนทให้คอมพิวเตอร์ใช้งานได้ ระบบ นี้เราจะเรียกมันว่า “Internet Tethering“ ซึ่งมันจะทำตัวมันเองให้ทำงานคล้าย Modem ซึ่งจะเชื่อมต่อผ่านสาย USB หรือจะเป็น Bluetooth ก็ได้ แค่นี้เราก็จะสามารถแชร์เนทไปให้ Mac หรือ PC ที่เราต้องการได้แล้ว แต่ทั้งนี้ทั้งนั้นก็ต้องขึ้นอยู่กับผู้ให้บริการสัญญาณโทรศัพท์มือถือที่ ท่านใช้งานอยู่ ว่ารับรองกับระบบนี้หรือไม่
8. ความสะดวกในการใช้งานที่เพิ่มขึ้น ทาง Apple ได้เพิ่มฟังค์ชั่นที่จะช่วยให้เราใช้งานได้สะดวกขึ้น อาทิเช่น ระบบ VoiceOver ที่จะคอยอ่านข้อความที่อยู่บนจอภาพให้ออกมาเป็นเสียง หรือจะเป็นระบบ zoom ที่ทำให้เรา zoom เข้าไปได้ถึง 5 ครั้ง และระบบปรับสภาพ contrast จออัตโนมัติในกรณีที่ต้องอ่านข้อความสีขาว บนพื้นสีดำ
9. ใช้งาน Nike+ iPod ได้ด้วย โดย ก่อนหน้านี้ระบบนี้ได้ถูกนำเข้าไปใช้งานกับ iPod Nano ก่อนแล้ว โดยมันจะใช้งานร่วมกับรองเท้า Nike ที่สนับสนุนการทำงาน Nike+ ซึ่งจะส่งผ่านข้อมูลทาง Bluetooth ทำให้เรารู้ว่าเราวิ่งได้ระยะทางแค่ไหน เสียพลังงานไปเท่าไหร่ แล้วมันจะตีออกมาเป็นสถิติให้
10. หูฟังแบบใหม่ โดยหูฟังแบบใหม่นี้จะมีปุ่มแบบ multi-button ซึ่งทำให้เราสามารถปรับเสียง ดัง-ค่อย ได้ ซึ่งหูฟังในรุ่นหน้านี้จะไม่สามารถทำได้

It takes a long time to sync photos to iPhone/iPod Touch if you have thousands of photos. Simplify Media has a new App Simplify Photo (US$0.99) which lets you to view photos on iPhone/iPod Touch without syncing. You need to create an account in Simplify Media. The app will guide you after the first installation. Then, install the provided software in Windows or Mac.  Enter the account information and everything is good to go.

Simplify Photo is even better than the built-in Photo.app. You can browse photos according locations or faces. It’s like the iPhoto for iPhone. Use finger to flip through the photos. It also lets you to save the photo to the iPhone/iPod Touch. Unfortunately you can’t zoom in the photos in the current version.

Best thing is that you can set up a few Windows or Mac and choose the photos library you love. It’s too complicated to sync different photo library of different computers to iPhone/iPod Touch. Simplify Photo have solved the problem.

Our friends in Hong Kong winandmac send us a screenshot that I thought it’s fake. It’s real for sure. Their official carrier 3HK delivers the true 3G speed that iPhone 3GS should have. It reaches above 4Mbps in some places. This could be the first time I see iPhone 3GS gets better internet than that of the old iPhone 3G. But, they added,

Actually, 3HK is pretty slow in most places. Recently we found a few places that can reaches 4Mbps or higher mysteriously.

This is mystery. Let’s hope all iPhone carriers in the world can deliver the true internet speed of 3GS.

Joe Hewitt, Developer of Facebook for iPhone, keeps his promise, and after having communicated personally to be near the finish line, is now known, through Twitter, that the application was finally completed. It was then moved to various locations in order to support various languages.

The Japanese are already ready, but still missing all the European ones. The work is progressing without major problems and within two weeks should be able to send it to Apple.

Hewitt has promised that the new update will be free of these bugs fastidiosissimi the current version and in addition will have all the features followed:

• A new main screen divided into 9 sections that allow easy access to various options, research and notifications
• The “News Feed”
• Events
• Notes
• Pages
• Possibility of creating new photo albums
• Ability to upload photos in each album
