After iPhone has upgraded to 3.1, 3GS users don’t have the choice to go back to 3.0/3.0.1 unless they have the ECID SHSH file. Thanks to the Apple for not signing the 3.0/3.0.1 which causes lots of troubles to users.
Some people said the new 3.1 firmware has problems. The biggest one could be the battery life. While you may not be able to get back to 3.0/3.0.1, Apple wants to solve the problems actively. The AppleCare helpdesk asks 11 questions to users who have reported the case in the discussion forum. Apple also asks people to install the configuration file in order to check and log the battery life. The report will be sent to Apple for further investigation.
If Apple allows 3GS users to restore the 3.0/3.0.1 firmware without forcing them to upgrade to 3.1, the life would become easier.
