Instapaper Pro v2.1 Released, Now Supports Twitter And Tumblr Sharing

Posted by admin

instapaperpro

The popular offline web page viewer, Instapaper Pro, has just received a relatively useful update that adds a bunch of new features, including the ability to share articles on Tumblr and Twitter.

Instapaper Pro is an easy-to-use app for the iPhone and iPod touch that allows you to conveniently save web pages for later viewing.  The app is able to save pages in graphical or text mode, star recommended articles, save your position, adjust text and font sizes, and so much more.  Instapaper Pro is a must-have app for anyone who is constantly on-the-go and just can’t find time to read important articles during the day.

Instapaper Pro v2.1 now features the ability to share articles on Tumblr or Twitter with built-in client support, send articles to supported Twitter apps if you have them installed, email articles without leaving the Instapaper, non-article screens no longer rotate, interface and speed improvements, and fixed a common crash from the previous version.  It’s worth noting that this version now requires iPhone OS 3.0.

The update hasn’t quite propagated to all servers yet, so if you don’t see the new version just check for updates on your device.  Otherwise you can wait it out, it will show up in iTunes soon enough.

Instapaper Pro v2.1 is now available in the App Store for $4.99.  A free version is available, but it is lacking many of the features contained in the Pro version, and it is ad-supported.

Embedded below is a video demonstration of some of the features introduced in the previous Instapaper Pro v2.0 update.

Apple fans tell you why they use the Mac – แฟนพันธ์ุแท้ แอ๊ปเปิ้ล บอกว่าทำไมพวกเข้าถึงใช้ แมค

What is the best way to spread the love of Mac? YouTube video, probably. CBGFilms has put all the videos by other Mac users into one video, to tell you the reason why they use the Mac instead of PC. It sounds like Laptop Hunters, but this video is produced by real users with no scripts. Apple may consider this as the new commercial.

Apple Says Jailbreaking Aids Drug Dealers, Catastrophic CyberAttacks

Apple is making preposterous claims in its effort to prevent jailbreaking from becoming a legally acceptable practice.

Security researcher Christopher Soghoian reports that in a recent filing with the copyright office, “Apple has argued that consumers who wish to jailbreak their mobile phones and change the device’s unique serial number must be drug dealers or other criminals.”

[E]ach iPhone contains a unique Exclusive Chip Identification (ECID) number that identifies the phone to the cell tower. With access to the BBP via jailbreaking, hackers may be able to change the ECID, which in turn can enable phone calls to be made anonymously (this would be desirable to drug dealers, for example) or charges for the calls to be avoided.

Wired.com has also found some more ridiculous accusations in which Apple suggests jailbroken iPhones would be used to cause catastrophic damage to cellular networks.

“a local or international hacker could potentially initiate commands (such as a denial of service attack) that could crash the tower software, rendering the tower entirely inoperable to process calls or transmit data,”

“Taking control of the BBP software would be much the equivalent of getting inside the firewall of a corporate computer — to potentially catastrophic result.”

“The technological protection measures were designed into the iPhone precisely to prevent these kinds of pernicious activities, and if granted, the jailbreaking exemption would open the door to them.”

Fred von Lohmann, is an attorney for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a group founded to protect the rights of individuals. He notes that there are over a million jailbroken iPhones and this has never happened.

Apple’s argument would make open source platforms such as Android a menace to society as well. Saying that a jailbroken iPhone should be illegal because its possible to do something illegal with it sounds like a very weak defense.

Apple Rejects Removes all Google Voice Apps for iPhone from iTunes App Store

Posted by admin

google_voice_reject

Apple has systematically removed and/or rejected all Google Voice apps for the iPhone (and iPod touch) from the iTunes App Store, whether by Google themselves or by third party developers.

Rejection is something we’ve all become very familiar with since the inception Apple’s App Store. However, Apple picking off the two Google Voice applications that were already available in the App Store (GV Mobile and Voicecentral) along with flat out rejecting Google’s official application, is something else.

It all started with Sean Kovacs’ GV Mobile client, which originally became available last week (according to Kovacs after being approved by Apple VP Phil Schiller himself), being yanked from the App Store for allegedly duplicating the iPhone’s calling and text messaging features. When Apple contacted Kovacs, no specifics were given on what needs to be changed to get his app back into the store and Kovacs claims Apple refused to send an e-mail to confirm that GV Mobile was yanked. The following is from Kovacs blog:

Richard Chipman from Apple just called – he told me they’re removing GV Mobile from the App Store due to it duplicating features that the iPhone comes with (Dialer, SMS, etc). He didn’t actually specify which features, although I assume the whole app in general. He wouldn’t send a confirmation email either – too scared I would post it. I’ll see what I can do to get it back up there gang…

Voicecentral has since also disappeared from existence within the App Store. They have been less vocal as there is not a single mention of the disappearance on their website.

Is this Apple’s doing or more of a carrier-forced rejection? TiPb thinks the carriers are pulling Apple’s rejection strings on this one as Google Voice has the potential to hit the carriers where it hurts – free SMS messages, cheaper phone calls, etc…

What do you readers think about these rejections?
